IMPROVING THE CONSOLIDATION CHARACTERISTICS OF SALINE SABKHA SOIL BY ADDING BITUMEN

The rapid economic and population growth, increase in constructions, a small selection of appropriate soil resources Kuwait have made it necessary to research stabilization methods because the existing soils are currently unsuitable their natural conditions. In this study, consolidation characteristics sabkha samples southern mixed with 0%, 4%, 8%, 10% bitumen respect dry weight were investigated. For purpose, an experimental program, including characterization tests, modified Proctor compaction test, one-dimensional collapsibility was executed. Results indicate that increasing percentage improves compressibility soil. Upon addition bitumen, yield stress increased from 25 34 kPa, compression index slightly 0.02774 0.03145, swelling decreased 0.0119 0003. Further, there considerable reduction collapse potential 1.192 0.301 upon bitumen. Thus, is evident disadvantageous can be mitigated. results support possibility recycling soil, thereby contributing toward addressing environmental issues associated disposal excavated
